Stones River National Battlefield contains the site where the site's namesake battle took place, a battle which resulted in Union victory and gave control of middle Tennessee to the North. Start by browsing the exhibits and artifacts contained within the visitor center, which help illuminate the battle that was fought between December 31, 1862 and January 2, 1863. Walk through the park's 500 acres alone or look into visiting during one of the interpretive programs run by the park rangers. Also connected to the battlefield is the Stones River National Cemetery where many Civil War soldiers are interred. Situated on the northwest side of Murfreesboro, the battlefield is close to all the attractions of town as well as the Stones River National Artillery Monument.
